I was here at work during 9/11. The airport accepted emergency landings at a rate of perhaps one landing every 4-5min's. Within an hour there was an aircraft parked on all 40 or so gates plus another 40+ scattered about the ramp by mid-day. All of them emptied, shut down, and locked up tight. All that remained that day was an eerie silence mixed with the shock of it all.
